A new craze is sweeping consumers as they hunt for their favourite scents – amongst the UK’s bargain shops.

To get our hands on the luscious smelling designer perfumes, customers will happily spend more than £50 easily.

But now, B&M, Aldi, Home Bargains and even Lidl are giving us the opportunity to find those designer brands for much cheaper.

With videos and social media posts sharing the perfume, customers are going in their droves to see if the scents really do match their favourites.

So which perfumes do customers reckon they’ve found as a bargain?

Home Bargains seems to be a popular choice with the Madonna range seeming to have plenty of scents that are dead ringers for some way more expensive counterparts.

Mugler’s ‘Alien’ is one of the most popular perfumes on sale. It costs £68 at Boots and can go up to £80 if you’re buying directly from Mugler.

However Madonna’s ‘Exotic’ is on sale at the discount store for 99p and its packaging is strikingly similar to the real Alien.

Fans also think that Madonna’s ‘Daydream’ smells exactly like Britney Spears ‘Fantasy’.

Madonna’s ‘Goddess’ is thought to smell like Paco Robanne’s ‘Olympa’ and Blossom is thought to smell exactly like Marc Jacob’s ‘Daisy’.

We tested the 'Alien' dupe - and found it does smell the same

Lidl has also had success with its own brand perfume.

Customers have been flocking for their bottle of Suddenly Madam Glamour, thought to smell exactly like Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. Suddenly Madam Glamour is just £3.99 whereas to get your hands on Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle, you’re looking at a price range of £60 plus.

Lidl’s Essence Cotton Blue, priced at £4.99 is thought to mimic the £50 Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue and Aura En Rose, £4.99, is said to be reminiscent of Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle – priced at £55.

Jo Malone’s scents, costing anywhere between £102 to £130 have been compared to Aldi’s range titled Lacura, which on average cost just £6.99.

Aldi has perfumes Hotel Collection Peony Blush, woody Bergamot Oud and rich Myrrh & Sweet Tonka Eau de Toilettes are all said to be replicas of the Jo Malone range too.


Bargain store B&M’s ‘Arome No.2’ has been dubbed a replica of Jo Malone’s pomegranate noir cologne.

The Jo Malone perfume costs around £89 but ‘Arome No.2’ costs just £4.99.
